What is ISDN

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a type of high-speed Internet connection that uses existing telephone lines. ISDN is faster than dial-up Internet service, but it's not as fast or as inexpensive as broadband cable or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology. ISDN is also not available in all locations.

ISDN is much more expensive than dial-up modems and phone lines. But if you need fast downloads and access to web content, and other forms of broadband access are not available in your area, it might be an option for you.

As with other Internet connection methods, you need an Internet service provider (ISP) to use ISDN. You also need an ISDN adapter installed in your computer.

To configure the adapter to work with the type of telephone switch that it's connected to, use Device Manager:

Click to open Device Manager.‌  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

After you've installed and configured the ISDN adapter, set up an Internet connection:

Click to open the Connect to the Internet wizard.
